A large hardwood of wide occurrence, from the Indian subcontinent to Burma, Thailand And Vietnam. Heartwood is golden brown in colour, often with dark markings. The Wood contains a oleo-resin which gives it a greasy feel and a distinctive odour to Freshly cut material. Grain usually straight. The freshly cut wood can be variable in Colour, with blotches and streaks.
Workability:
Usually relatively easy to work. Nails satisfactorily but gluing sometimes
Presents difficulties because of the oily nature of the wood. Good resistance to acids.

Furniture, decorative veneer, garden furniture.
The entire family of teak found in African countries like Ghana, Benin, Gabon and Cameroon come under this category. Heartwood is typically yellowish brown, occasion will have an either reddish or olive hue. Colour tends to darken with age. Narrow sapwood is clearly yellow and clearly differentiated with the heartwood. Grain is usually straight, though it can also be interlocked. With a fine uniform texture and good natural lustre.
Workability:
In nearly all regards it is to work with both hands and machine tools. African teak turns, glues, stains, and finishes well.

Heartwood is light reddish brown, wide sapwood is pale yellow to nearly white. Grain is straight, with a medium , even texture. Medium sized resin canals, numerous and evenly distributed. Heartwood is moderately durable to non-durable regarding decay resistance.
Workability:
Pinewood is easy to work with both hand and machine tools. Glues andfinishes well.
Uses:
Boxes, crates and furniture.
